| Born
on January 25, 1987, in San Francisco, California, Variex has
been putting his heart into music since the age of thirteen. Being
a teenager in the Bay Area, his early music was greatly influenced
by gangster rap, but his interests continued to mature and develop
throughout high school, hand-in-hand with his personality and,
ultimately, his music. After changing his alias to Variex (“x
variable”), he started to incorporate more electronic instrumentation
into his production. Along with this change, honesty became a
prominent aspect in his lyricism, resulting in creative self-expression
in place of generic rhyme schemes. The music of Variex is now
a blend of captivating atmospheres and moving soundscapes, while
fusing elements of hip hop, IDM, and shoegaze. He defines his
music as a failed soundtrack of subtly melodic atmospheric moody
glitch hop composed to the motion picture screenplay of an unwritten
book based on the diary of a boy who thinks too much.
